Welcome to The Comic Box. This is a discussion thread for the GI Joe comics. We start at Marvel’s #1 and move thru the series every Wednesday. It’s a chance to give your thoughts, opinions and remarks about the comic in question.
31. All Fall Down!
~Short Summary~
Snake-Eyes takes leave at his mountain retreat, but is followed by new Joes Spirit and Airborne, but also by Destro, Firefly, and the Crimson Guard known as Fred.
~Notes of Interest~
Takes place at Snake-Eyes' mountain cabin. Get to see plenty of his pet wolf, Timber. First appearance of Spirit Iron-Knife. First issue pencilled by Rod Whigham, who takes the helm for years to come. (My favorite Joe artist, too!) A great firefight in the issue.

[COLOR=Red]at one time i loved this issue, it had some great characters in it. now that i cant stand the sight of snake eyes's hideous face, i would find it hard to read this issue again. but in all fairness, it is a great story for anyone who doesn't hate snake eyes as i do. even if you do, it has firefly, destro and spirit which make for a great cast. the story itself if one of the hama's best. it shows what he could do before he went to the dark side and fell to in love with snake eyes, or maybe he was told to write all those crappy stories. An excellent issue, great writing and great art,as GS said,by Rod Whigham.( he's my 2nd Favorite Joe artist, after Ron Wagner)
It's a very 'tight' story, with a lot of information and plot in one issue-and a lot of action as well!
Airborne-"Hang on Snake-Eyes-the Cavalry is here!"
Spirit-"WHAT??"
Airborne-"Well,it don't make any sense to say 'the Indians are here'!" :p
It's a cool fight :Snake-Eyes,Spirit Iron-Knife,and Airborne vs. Destro,Firefly,and Crimson Guardsman Fred I.
Next issue is the First Appearance of Lady Jaye!! :p

Another one of those great issues, well written and drawn, that managed to tell a good individual story as well as keep things humming along in the overall plot. They don't write 'em like this anymore!

This was an extra fine issue, and one that I read and re-read. Here was my rendition of a specific page/panel in issue 31.

This story revealed more of the humanity of Snake-Eyes, that he was a guy who would bleed if wounded, who was trying to take some vacation time away from it all. He was not a perfect mythical superhero ninja who could transcend the rules of physics, kill 100's of Cobras hand to hand and never seem to be nicked.
The fact that he tried to throw back a grenade and hit a window sill because he was shot through the thigh shows that even "the man" himself could be hurt when cornered in an awkward situation.
I also liked that he survived with Timber. A good read.
