I'm reading that phthalates and other things in plastics toys can be dangerous? I just unearthed my Mauler Tank from 1986 and in one area the plastic was exuding a clear oil. It was mostly around the edges of the battery cover on the bottom of the tank. The batteries have been out since forever, so it's nothing to do with them. Sitting in this chest for 24 years, the amount of this greasy stuff is only about a teaspoons worth. I remember that this toy's plastic always had a greasy feel to it, even when I first opened it. Your fingers felt a tiny bit slippery after playing with it. Does anyone know anything about plastics 'sweating' out oils or whatever? Is there any chance that this is something hazardous? I've got a brand new baby boy and don't want to expose him to anything bad. Any insight will be appreciated.

Thanks so much,

-Kelly

i wonder if The Mauler just had been lubricated liberally in production because of the battery compartment and motor? Thats all i can think of.

I recall a while back that there was a discussion regarding the 'leaking' of some toys......

As far as I can remember, its not a problem unless your licking it. But just to be safe, if your son is an infant, keep the Mauler away from him for a little bit. But I know that my nephew is 3 now and he plays with all of Flint's toys and he's fine.

p.s.-Welcome to the site!
