Duke's "Double Collar"????

Can anyone tell me why (has anyone else noticed?) the 1983/84 Duke action figure appears to have TWO collars?

It appears that he is wearing an olive green short-sleeved polo-type collared shirt UNDERNEATH his tan long-sleeved-button-up collarded shirt (with the tan shirt's sleeve's rolled up to just below his elbows).

I have NEVER heard of or seen anyone wear a polo or golf shirt UNDER a collared long-sleeved shirt (most people wear T-shirts under that type of shirt if they wear anything under it at all). It always looked very uncomfortable, scratchy, and way too hot and cumbersome.

Is this a military thing? Or did Hasbro designers just drop acid before they did the Duke V1 sculpt?

Always bothered me and I figured maybe someone on these boards would have some insight as to WHY?!??

Oh, that's a good explanation NJ. Sort of like Hannibal's tan lightweight jacket he always wore on the A-Team?

The only thing with that would be, I'd expect them to show some of the "jacket" below the belt a-la Recondo.

However, they didn't on Duke, so it always looked more like a shirt tucked-in, than a jacket....

Your idea has good logic behind it - it's just that if that IS in fact the reason, I would think Hasbro could have materialized that better if they did his outfit more like Recondo's jacket. Instead, they left me scratching my head.

Good reasoning though!

I had to get up to check my 25th Duke, lol. Maybe Duke is just that cool that he needs two collars to "pop".

This also got me thinking - why was he named "Duke"?

Was it as in European Royalty - King, Earl, Barron, Duke, etc.

Or was he named after "The Duke" - John Wayne?

Anyone know Hasbro/Larry Hama's official reasoning for his name choice?

I'm pretty sure it was for the Duke - John Wayne.

A distant second would by the less known Duke - QB Fran Tarkenton who finished his playing years in 1978, just a few years prior.
