'Pic of the Week'

OK gang!! I just saw Flatline's pic in the 'what we look like' thread with Sgt. Slaughter and it gave me an idea!!!

This thread is going to be solely for our 'Pic of the Week'...........meaning that whatever we see that strikes us as cool, interesting or otherwise thought provoking gets posted here.
{PLEASE remember to use common sense when posting, as anything that's 'over the line' will be deleted}

Sooooooooooo, let's see what we've got!!!!!

This is my favorite picture from my stay in Maine. It reminds me of the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost.

Robert Frost is quite the poet, and the picture illustrates a literal interpretation of that poem: "I chose the road less travelled by, and that has made all the difference." It also leads to introspection of decisions we make each day, and how they affect our lives.

Thanks General Jones!

gung ho 07-30-2007 07:18 PM

ok hows this ??

Dersham 07-30-2007 10:33 PM

That's quite the emotional picture General Jones, I rather liked it. I can't think of any to submit myself, however.

I captured this little guy while shooting August Target Range pictures!

Dragonfly

Pretty cool huh? This was after I stumbled on a Buzzard having lunch and didn't get my camera ready quick enough! D'oh!

Dave :D

General Scarlett 08-02-2007 10:18 AM

Outrider 08-02-2007 02:06 PM

Great shot Dave. It reminded me of this pic I took when this little beauty landed next to my front door last summer. It was a good test for the macro setting on my camera!

Dragonfly

I've got two... Both from my parents yard. I love Bloodgrass. My parents' are huge compared to the ones I have in my flower bed at Emi's. The frog... The cats used to sleep around it when it was warm out.

That is a gorgeous photo, Craig. The colours are superb!

These beasties aren't very common where I live. Infact up until last week I had only saw a dead one! At that pond theres hundreds of them... But only when the sun is out and at its warmest. There was a rattling noise. I assumed it was a Grasshopper or something but it wasn't. It was a huge Dragonfly. Like 5-6 inches long. It wouldn't stay still long enough for me to snap though! I'll be keeping an eye out for it, I had no idea they got so big!

I dragged my Dad down in the evening with his big Sony camera thing in the hope we'd catch more Dragonflies. Especially since my Dad's camera is one of those big scary SLR things! It would have taken better pictures than my Cybershot! Sadly it wasn't warm enough though. Although I did snap one little guy I managed to see...

Frog

Very cute! I just wished I took some Joe's with me! I could have done my first "Caption this Photo!" :D

I love the colours G! Typical that the cats know all the best spots for a warm snooze!

General Scarlett 08-06-2007 07:34 AM

I don't know if you can really get a good sense of it, but this was a rather large spider web that had been spun over one of the shrubs in my front yard. At least I spotted it BEFORE walking through it!!!!

gung ho 08-06-2007 08:58 AM

very cool pic scar. that must have been one heck of a spider

Outrider 08-06-2007 12:34 PM

Don't you hate it when you walk through a spider web?

gung ho 08-06-2007 12:41 PM

gung ho 08-14-2007 06:06 PM

1) The thread's not 'old' by any stretch of the imagination.........it's labeled 'Pic of the Week', that means that you can post on it weekly if you like!!

2) When the pics are as fabulous as the ones you've just posted up.........don't EVER be sorry for that!!!

OK here's a couple of my photos of the week. Over the weekend my wife and I decided to hit a few yard sales. I figured it would be a chance to find some joes. Instead I got a 55 gal fish tank, so my fish packed their bags and moved from the 10 gal.

My African Cichlid. Neat fish and the color is beautiful. I'm considering getting a few more in different colors.

My Striped Raphael Catfish (he's nocturnal hunter and I guess a little camera shy)
A very cool fish he's also known as a "talking catfish" he grinds the bones of its pectoral fins whichs makes a crooking sound. Really awesome shocked me the first time I heard it.

Rainbow Shark This is a fish with an identity crisis. He isn't a shark at all, but a loach. And he seems to like to hang out with the Raphael Catfish. Even after moving them to the bigger tank.

And since we're posting insect pictures here's one I took a few weeks ago while out shooting my Vipers

Mobius_1 08-15-2007 05:16 PM

taken maybe last year when we had a super high tide. now imagine that going over the fence and you have Isabelle. :(

gung ho 08-15-2007 06:23 PM

very cool pic man love it

These are very well done. How much of a pain was it to take the photo? Don't fish move all the time? What other fish live in your tank?

Outrider 08-16-2007 12:28 AM

I'll bet no-one else has spotted any of these on a location shoot! This pair were in the park about 3km from our home one morning a few months back whilst my wife and I were out shooting Joe pics.

It took a couple a times to get the shot. Yes they do move all the time, but will do it in one spot. I have two Green Spotted Puffers, an Iridescent Shark (which is not a shark, but a catfish  ), a Leopard Pleco (Algae Eater) and a Zebra Danio (had 5, but lost a couple during the move to OH and 1 was eaten by the Raphael Catfish  ) I'm thinking of getting a Chinese Butterfly Loach, I'm just waiting for the pet store to say they are cleared to sell.

This is a picture of an old abandoned Army hospital. It was used during or after WWII. It has since closed. Some of the buildings have been converted into businesses but other are just empty and are falling apart.

Blowtorch 08-22-2007 07:24 PM

Here's another one from the tank (for those who give a rat's a$$) This is my Pleco he was about 2 inches when I got him, now here's close to 5 inches.

gung ho 08-22-2007 08:04 PM
