Great news!
Thank You, my friend: grazie!
|
Thank you for this. I fall into the no hub category. At least now I can stay current.
|
hooray! at last the series aired, thanks for the post
|
not bad... a little disappointed in the animation and the "re-intro" to call-signs and such. Not a fan of General Hawk either.
The concept is really cool tho. |
I have to check it out later (too late now) but thanks I missed it before.
|
ill be honest i didnt like the show BUT! i hope it gets success with kids because if it keeps gijoe alive everyone wins and worst case scenario we might get some cool toys out of it :)
you should also check out Transformers Prime that they launched same time as gi joe. i hope both shows do well. |
The lasers and monsters sucked but overall I still enjoyed it.
|
Been digging for 3 days for this; shoulda known YouTube would post it. Thanks for the link. I don't get the Hub, and I won't pay cable $100+/month to get the tier that carries it. Didn't Hasbro say they'd post it on their website?
As for the cartoon, all us over-18ers should forget the over-analysis. The show is made for kids, with all the formulas: unlikable authority figure (Scarlett), comic relief (Ripcord & Roadblock), smart-ass (Tunnel Rat), uber-badass ninja, etc. The Joes are "hip" again, and hopefully this series will go somewhere. Or at least somewhere people can see it. Who actually gets the Hub anyway? Couldn't they sell it to Cartoon Network? |
I fell asleep during the Blob-Viper fight. I hope the kids enjoy this, its not my kind of toon so far.
|
Okay so I watched da cartoon. I think I'm going to like the cartoon! The art isn't that bad some anime influences and a bit of sigma six in there too. But I guess i'm retarded or something cause there actual renegades next to what the title says lol. I think that makes the idea new and rejuvenated, now only do they have to go up against cobra but the us gov as well. So now come the questions, why does lady jaye sound like jlo in the bronx! is lady jaye puerto rican! lol as well scarlett seems to be on the rag or something with her f#$%ing attitude! lol
my big WTF!!!!!! is they killed ripcord in the first episode wtf!!!! maybe he'll appear again or something but for now he's gone black rippppppp noooooOOOOOOOoo! :( I can see this show being more of a show than a gimmick to sell toys, even though its always been about selling toys! what do yeh fellars think? lemme know! I hope they make that cargo carrier its the shiz nisssss! by the way! Im viewing the show from a kids eyes not mine! ;) they are for kids anyways! |
I'm hoping it gets better :o GI Joe is now like the A-team or something? On the hunt for Cobra trying to clear their names....sounds familiar to me. The animation is okay to me the reinvention of how RB and Ripcord (Cory's Fav cause he's black ;) ) look will take some getting used to. But i understand the whole new generation for kids spin.
What I really hope is that we get a Toy line ala Clone Wars. In that Animation styling, that way we could keep it totally away from OUR regualr Joe verse and for the Kiddies. |
They better bring back da "Boom Shakalaka Kid" quick! That show was way better with him on it!
And Brian Bender blows. |
Ok I was finally able to watch Renegades
In short good story, good animation "thought the art style is still very odd to me". As I understand it Gi Joe hasn't officially formed up yet, so it will be interesting to see the evolution of the unit. I willing to bet that Ripcord isn't dead, but it is cool that he started the tradition of the code/nick names. I glad that Charlie Adler is still doing the his voice of Cobra Commander from resolute i do like the continuing story ark too I'm cool with the A-team feel of the story and it looks like Hasbro did it on purpose. So far it seems better than it has a right to be.
Not in love with the character designs and the Asian mystical music that plays whenever Snake-Eyes does something is goofy. Anyway, it's another reinvention of a known franchise. That's standard thing to do these days. If you take it or leave it, it's no biggie, because there's another "reboot" around the corner. |

C'mon: Lady J-Lo? Get it? But no, really, it's Political Correctness at its best; every team has to have 1 white male, 1 white female, 1 african-american, 1 asian, & 1 latino. Lady Jaye is a recognized (?) character, so they remixed her. Too bad for Zap and Law. And I guess Native Americans didn't make the cut. But once they figure out how to add Spirit without being overly stereotypical, he'll show up. |

The figures based on the Renegades series will most likely be in the same styling and articulation that the Pursuit of Cobra line currently has. The Shock Trooper in the latest PoC wave looks a lot like the Cobra trooper in the show. Same with Duke from PoC wave three, looks similarly dressed as in the show. |
Quote:
Well that sucks....kinda the shock Trooper is pretty sick ;) |
It's been confirmed in a Q&A hat the figure will be realistic and articulated like the POC line not cartoony like the Clone wars figures are

Happy to hear that, I don't think the Joe line needs to be fractured any more than it already is. I'm hoping Renegades will finally give us a decent Scarlett figure. |
Episode 3 is up on YouTube for those of us who can't get The Hub. I'll add a link in the first post as each episode comes out.

Its getting better and better... I'm impressed.
|
I actually got to watch this one on tv, I was so pumped! Dish network customers get a free month of Hub for december, so at least I'll get to catch a few episodes live lol.
|
Episode 4 is up on YouTube if you can't watch in it on the Hub.

Just watched the four episodes. Thanks for the links.
|
Wow, serious backstory. Kinda funny to see the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow relationship explored yet again. My daughter liked the new character twist.
|
I wonder what would happen if they just did it '82 style. Release the Sunbow cartoons just like a "new" cartoon. And reprints of the Marvel run, one a month. All that concurrent with the 25th line. I mean, it was quite an enduring story and mythos. Wouldn't kids today dig it like we did?

I liked the episode but constantly changing the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow origin story is getting really annoying. The original was an important part of GI Joe mythos. If it ain't broke, don't break it. Somebody always says it can't be done because of Vietnam but all the writers have to do is change the name of the war to Iraq or Afghanistan and tah-dah, the history can remain intact. Stalker is going to need a new background story now. Too bad, I like how those three were friends. |
Why was teenage Snake-EYes hanging around some old timey-looking Japanese village dressed in vintage Japanese-style attire?
So far a 3 out of 11 of the "GI JOE" characters aren't military (including, of all people, SNAKE-EYES!). The way this show is, I expect Beach-Head to be a surfer dude again. Wild Bill will just be a Texas Ranger. Stalker will just be a sympathetic street gang leader who hates Cobra. Not that it matters to me that much, it's just a new spin. GI JOE has been reimagined a few times now. This is just another one. And at least it's not as vapid as Sigma Six. |
thanks for the link
its getting impressive i like dr mindbender he is cool |
This is not perfect, but so far it has exceeded my expectations. My sons refer to the bio-viper experiment things as the "Goo" guys.
Action for the kids and subtle things for the adults. Like the Cobra rep giving two kids an apple is a biblical allusion to the serpent in the garden of Eden. |
Episode 5 is up on YouTube for those who can't watch it on the Hub.

My take on it is that it is a lot better than I expected.
The characters are roughly the same. I like the voices, everybody has a good one and there are no over the top accents or anything like that. The animation is OK, but then again, I've been watching it on a not very strong connection, so it gets a bit choppy sometimes. I have a hard time enjoying an animated show, no matter how good it is, if the animation sucks. So far the story seems pretty decent; starting off, reinventing the main plot, but still enjoyable. The animation style isn't as annoying as I thought it might be. Not quite on par with Resolute, but far better than any of those stupid kiddie shows like Pokemon or Yugioh. I do think it's funny how everybody got their nick names in the show. Over all, I like it and am just happy there's a Joe 'toon back on the air. Roadblock needs to loose the mutton chops. |
I finally watched all the episodes so far and it's decent, despite the occasional corniness or over the top action scene. I liked how Bludd's car chase scene was reminiscent of Mad Max. Shop Smart, Shop SSS Market. lol its good enough to keep watching.
|
I tried with it, gave it 5 eps but it is really horrid. THe designs are terrible and the stories are not much better. Just too horrid for me to keep going with, I'm done, the ninja eps were all I could stand. I gave it a decent shot but it just is that bad.
|
It's already clear where the series has gone wrong. Snake-Eyes should've died in the first episode and Ripcord should've lived and starred in a two-parter.

Bravo. You're a amazing man. ;) |

I see what you did there... You're a true credit to society. |
Somthing kinda cool I just discovered about the voice actors for this show. Tunnel Rat is actually voiced by and Asian guy from New York, Roadblock is voiced by a big black dude, Baroness is voiced by an Eastern European woman, Lady Jay is voiced by a Latina.
I love voice actors. I study their voices and practice my own differing dilects and ways of speaking. Futurama's Dr. Zoidberg is one of my favorite to do. I love to hear an animated voice and try to figure out f I know the actor. In the 80, this was easy. It was either Michael Bell or Frank Welker. Period. Arthur Burghart, Mary McDonald-Lewis, BJ Ward...these were all pseudonames for Frank Welker and Michael Bell so they could fill up the cast card in the closing credits. Today 50% of everything is done by Maurice Lamarsche, Dave Herman or Frank Welker. The other 50% is done by John DiMaggio. Maybe 40/60 for DiMaggio. I like that when it comes to ethnic characters, that actors of that ethnicity are used for their voices. Even when a person is born and raised speaking the American dialect of English, there are still certain enflections and tones accociated with certain ethnic groups and to use those actors for those roles really helps to sell the character to me. |
