The first project for AutoCad2 was to create a floor plan of a house or apt. It could be based on a reality or we could create it ourselves. Me being me, I did 2 floors and well, I was the only one. We took AutoCad1 in Fall and this was a refresher. It's around 3000 sq ft and based roughly on my parents house.

1st floor. There are stairs leading DOWN into the living/entertainment room.


2nd floor. Residential spaces.


The 2nd project was for us to build the walls. No flat roofs. A few stairs. Deck and/or porch. You get the idea. We'll do windows and facing later.

Front view. Due to my layers, the colors end up pretty funky. Like an orange roof (when the lines used are actually red!!!)


This is the backside of the house. Getting the 2nd floor was pretty hard but once the instructor gave me some clues, I was good. There are stairs inside so I had to line those up. NOtice that the roof isn't just 1 big piece. Another parameter was NOT to do a pure rectangular house. (Course, if you live in a double wide trailer...)

Now here's the real fun. Monday and Wednesdays, I'm pretty much at school from 12-9. Or 11-9. Either way, it's a long day. Classes are 12-3 and then 6-9. So when I have work done (or don't feel like doing it), I started work on an aircraft carrier. It's NOT overly sci-fi but it's definitely not hard reality either! I'm using specs for the USS Enterprise (the naval vessel, not the NCC 1701, lol) and random pics from google and whatnot.

It's around 1500 ft long (Enterprise was around 1200') and 350' wide (vs 250' iirc). I emailed these screen captures to a few Joe fans around. I forget that I can put these on photobucket to show everyone. So check it out. As it stands, I'm working on the hull. Then I gotta work on the rails of the island (tower), elevator cutouts and then eventually, the guts of the ship.

This actually took about 4-5 hrs to do.

Closer view of the tower. Say, the two bow launch areas look kinda like the Resolute Flagg, right? ;) (Or macross's SDF)

Cool stuff :) I enjoyed using AutoCad in waaaaaay back in high school.

The deck of you aircraft carrier reminds me of of the USS Flagg from the GI Joe Resolute cartoon :)

The carrier is sweet, but the "house" could use some work (coming from someone who specializes in drafting/design) There is too much unused space, the master bath is in the middle of the room and there are two hallways to nowhere... good attempt, but if this is an actual house its design wasn't well thought of.

Heh heh, you never played around with expensive houses that have a lot of unused space. :p

I admit, you did get me on the hallway leading to nowhere. As for closets, we didn't have to put them in. But if you notice the way the doors open, that's where the closets would actually go. The dimensions aren't actually THAT big. This was just an exercise to get us back into CAD mode so when we built the walls, we were good. We didn't have to do wall widths but some of us did it anyway cuz it helped us think things out.

As for a garage, I admit it, I totally forgot about it. Regulations for Bellingham say "NO garages as part of the house". The regulations might be different now, but for 'older' houses, they are often set apart and because they are 'old', you can't remodel a house and ADD a garage. Go outside city limits and it's fine.

The idea for the 2nd floor stairs, next to it is an empty area. That was gonna be an open space. I just didn't desginate where the walls/floor would go for that. That's something my parents' house has. It's basically a big open space in the entry.

The master bath is kinda based on the remodel when I was married. I consider it 'more in the corner' and supposed to be big enough for a walk-in closet. We weren't worried about dimensions and people had all sorts of floor plans. The 10,000 sq ft plan I was fooling around with, I had no idea how to fill in the space. I had a recording studio as part of the garage, an enterainment area that could fit pool and other gaming tables, etc. I gave that up because as BK said, there would be a LOT of open space.



I worked on the hull twice now. I got the bow but it's pretty... sci-fi-ish. The stern I had to redo because it wasn't straight. I found that out when I tried to build the keels! Anyway, the house was just a school project. Wasn't overly serious or to a specific scale, etc.

I worked on the hull last week, I just forgot to add the pics here.





You guys can prolly see I was working on the keels last. I flubbed the stern so had to redux that whole section. But it's working out.


I tried to convince Tim (instructor) to change the final project for Cad2 from the school's building we work out of to a battlegroup to accompany my carrier. He didn't go for it. Oh well... the current assignment are trees. Not that they have to be overly realistic looking. My original trees were very Cybertron looking. But alas I gotta do some other things.

We were to create a primitive shape tree (the coned one) and then a version that we could 3DARRAY.

Another shot. Main differences are the sci-fi-ic antennae array. Close up is further down.


Worked more on the hull. Particularly focusing on the keels and the turbines.

The antennae array. It's not your typical array but then, this isn't your typical carrier!



And GeneralsJoes.com has Mike Norton's conceptual designs for Resolute. So now I can look at this all day w/o having to reference the cartoon!
