What GI Joe Needs?
Ok, I don't know if we've done this before, but we have done somehing similar...tell me what you think the GI Joe could use more of. For Example, they have the RHINO, Monster Blaster APC, the old '84 APC and the WArthog Tracked APC, but what they DON'T have is a multi wheeled APC like the Marine Corps LAV (Or he Army Stryker for those of you who think that the Army came up with that awesome Idea we have been using for like 30+ years! LOL!!)
REASON; All of the APC's listed above can be taken out by a landmine blowing off one wheel! A Multi wheeled APC can lose up to 5 (in the case of the 8 wheeled LAV) and still keep rolling. What else the GI Joe Team Needs; An Osprey. REASON; Since the Tomahawk, we have not seen a troop carrying Chopper that can deliver troops into battle and has the ability to allow troops to rappel from the sides or back into the fight! And if NOT an Osprey per se, a troop carrying airship that can hover! A Landing Craft! Reason; In GI Joe Issue #1 they showed the LCT, which Gave GI joe the ability to make amphbious landings with troops AND equipment. The APC and the WHALE allow Troops to come ashore in a fight, but what about equipment? (Mobats, Maulers, Vamps) I mean if they can make a giant MobileHelipad (The General) then why not a decent sized Landing craft!?!? Ok...there are MY Suggestions....Agree? Disagree? As Mike MEyers says "discuss...." |
I've thought about that with the LAV. There was that one vehicle, i think it's called the Pulveriser that had like eight wheels going down each side, but that was just an artillary piece.
I've always felt that the Joes could use more logistics vehicles. There is the APC for troop transport, but what about some kind of truck on which to transport a tank or Wolverine. Maybe the Desert/Jungle Strike Humvess could be retooled to resemble the M-998 cargo version of the Humvee. An Osprey or other troop transport aircraft would be great, plus the movie had the Howler, which was, for all intents and pouposes, a jet powered Osprey. While five Marines are as good as any battalion of Army SpecOps, more Marines. The Night Rhino/Warthog almost got it right by duplicating the Marine Corps' LVTP-7 AMTRAC, but an amphibious assault vehicle would be nice. While the Night Rhino/Warthog looks almost right, it's about half as long as it should be and the hatches open on the side rather than the top and back end. |
It needs Head.
"What does everyone want??? What does everyone need???" It's an Al Snow thing. :P |
You know Frank? If been thinking about what I would like in vehicle form for Joes, but your proposition is diferent. What do Joes need?
Can we extend it to the COBRAS? Two of the vehicles you guys brought up where made by Chap Mei. If they had a better distribution we would all have an good scaled Osprey and LVTP-7 AMTRAC. About a landing craft we have to say it could be a good idea for a toy. Not that complicate to build and would be awesome to play with it in pool. With some room for the Mauler and done. Like the LAV I think they did the Persuader, not the same thing, but close to it. I don't have it, but heard about it has a suspension on the wheels. Cobras need a better airtransport. |
Quote:
I've got that LVTP-7. It's crap. I'm actually trying to get rid of it. If it had been made to Joe standards, or even to the standards of their SEAL Boat or a few other items it might be worth it, but essentially it's nothing more than a hallow shell. Quote:

A landing craft! A huge aviation type vehicle like the chopper that picked up the weather dominator parts In The sunbow cartoon! Big enough to fit a rattler! And the main thing is women! More women! Good idea with the night stalkers but cheaper like a toyrus box set of the ladies of gi Joe and cobra and make em all new characters! just my two cents!

Quote:
Do you just want women in the big helicopter, DD?LOL. I like the idea of an amphibious barge/combination weapons platform. It delivers vehicles and men and can stay offshore and defend itself. it could have a small helicopter or vtol or JUMP pad too. and women! More women...for DD:p |
My Joes have their own LAV thanks to 21st Century toys, but I'd like to see a decent MLRS with a realistic enclosed cabin rather than the usual open crew areas Hasbro seems to favour. And Cobra deserves a decent transport chopper so I don't have to use the Chap Mei one I currently have. :)

C30
I would like to see a C-130 Hercules airplane.
|
Quote:
And the beauty of that particular C-130 is that it's actually an AC-130 Gunship. "Bring the rain," so to speak.:):):) |
Quote:
i'm with Carlos. they used it all the time in the comic and i've never seen an affordable scale one. |
1/17 Hercules! Somebody should try
Would somebody try to build this?
Giant 1/17 Scale C-130 Hercules Plans and Templates It is just a little bigger than the 1/18 figures. |
Hh-33 Ch-33
|
Just curious, but if someone were to make the parts, like as for a 1/18th scale model kit, where the consumer assembles it, would there be a market?
I think the way things are going, no one is going to do what we really desire, unless we do it ourselves. |
Rambo, Death, you guys go ahead and build that C-130, and I'll tell you haw cool it looks:)
Rambo, thats actually a CH-53 helicopter. And very much a whole bunch of yes, I would love to see that thing built in 1/18. I't big enough for a VAMP or two to pull inside and has the lifting capabilities to pich up a couple of Humvees or an APC. |
What does the Joes and Cobra forces need? After looking at the 2010 Toy Fare photos, I now have some thoughts to share with everyone.
In another thread I wrote "I don't see Cobra marching into a city, taking the highways, occupying large open spaces like an airfield with Alley Vipers. I see that more for regular troops with HISS's, Stingers, and even STUN's." I see Alley Vipers moving around in places like NYC where there are lots of tall, brick buildings, fire escapes, dark and narrow alleys between the firewalls of old buildings, warehouse battles, railyard battles, Alley Vipers securing or protecting quays at a port city. I don't see them very well roaming around NYC or New Orleans, or Chicago with a Rage. It's so wide. I don't see Alley Vipers roaming around a narrow European city with streets as old as medieval times. Or streets like those in Bangkok, or those of Guatemala City. It's so wide and ground clearance isn't very great. Urban warfare in my mind has a lot of cornors, narrow spaces, and rubble. What I want to see are vehicles that can fare well in an urban environment. For instance, an armored Ferret. Or something more futuristic like a mini-tank. Or even a mini-tank on legs. What I liked about GI Joe when it first started was the attention to vehicle designs that could actually be. The VAMP with remote operating guns is not that far fetched. Helicopter pilots, like those of a COBRA attack helecopter has the ability to aim the gun remotely via the helmet. A HAL is more far fetched, but still for it's size to be believable to be designed by some secret government project. So, what I want to see truly are futuristic stuff, but practical. Things that could be 10 or 20 years from now. It seems more robotic and A.I. type stuff are coming about today. UAV's exist now. Talk is of more advanced UAV fighters. Cobra has BAT's. How about BAT like vehicles, such as T-1's. I'm glad the HISS has done away with a man in the turrent. I never did like an unprotected gunner. What I also want to see are more interchangeable weapons. Classic HISS's with other weapon systems besides a cannon. Missile pods, gattling gun, combinations being added to a HISS. The 2010 HISS has these holes like the Rhino does, which I imagine are for adding weapons. So I guess that's good. And what about the Firebat? It used to have a Terror Drome for launching. How it's gonna launch now without one? There needs to be a trailer to tow a Firebat to location and launch it. So, if I had my way, I would arm my Cobra espcially with mini-tank like robot walkers. Larger versions to take a driver. Interchangeable weapons, and the ability to load up cargo. And lastly, the Joes do need a good advanced attack chopper. Something like Airwolf. The new Dragonfly doesn't cut it for me. It looks last century. The Dragonhawk would be good. Anyway, that's enough for now. ;-) . |
What we need
Definitely an Osprey with a chin turret. There is a new amphibious landing craft called the EFV. it fits 20 marines. Has operators on both sides and a bushmaster cannon that seats two in the middle It does 20 nots with the bowplane. A giant hovercraft that can carry joe vehicles like the ones the Marines have would be nice. How bout transformers that change into joe and cobra vehicles. More ladies would be nice . A joint strike fighter for cobra. The engine would move 90 degrees and lift off vertically. Russian BMP .25th snakeeyes collection with dickie sapersten and wade collins plus nva figure as a set with ss, stallker and ramon.Navy seals the movie set with Charlie Sheen this would help for bail money and would come in the Beirut mission camoflauge and the President from 24 would be right with the set. Hey he was in the movie with a moustache
|
rds13601 just gave me an idea. How about Civilians? A 6 pack of mixed civilians. If they don't like that, they can call them "Cobra Citizens" . We need more people to make a story. In the comics, there was always some shadowy politician or CIA guy messing with the Joes from time to time....that's what they need! More non-Joe and non-Cobra figures. hell, throw a CG Fred head on a SDCC Cobra Commmander in blue or black suit and "poof" you got one. Throw Redstars head on a SDCC Comic Con James McCullen and "poof" you have 2! see how easy that is...As Outrider says, Hasbro LOVEs recycling shit...

hmmmm, you know, there's this great channel on youtube called dynamicpara.
http://www.youtube.com/user/dynmicpara he has a ton of neat videos with helpful ideas to make the US Military better. i'd suggest looking at some and seeing if we can utilize them for the Joes and/or Cobra forces. the channel does in fact have a video of a trailer towed support fighter that can be air dropped. oh, and about more women in G.I. Joe. i agree. more Women, especially pilots! |
Idea!
Agree with the civilians idea. What about this kind of vehicles?
|
The problem with making civilian figures is simply that there is no market for them. Or at least not big enough for Hasbro to bother with. It would be great, but you'd be better off making your own customs from the available figures lines already out there.
However, I think the nature of this post is simply what types of vehicles could the the Joe team use. Cool as that pit mine dump truck is, why would a military organization, especially one considered a Special Operations Unit, need a pit mine dump truck? The bloody things are three lanes wide for one thing, not really an easily tranportable piece of equipment. There are engineer units that use heavy equpiment and earth movers, but even those are generally comouflage versions of civilain models, with the exception the ACE and SEE. Any dump truck these units usually have is based on the existing chassis of five ton and seven ton trucks which are roughly the same size as a civilain dump truck. |
what we need
You could have Crimson Guard agents in civillian clothes, you could have the jugglers. Or the bodyguards that protected that doctor in Marvel issue 1 or a 25th October Guard in a set. Oh and Dump trucks were used by Iraqi Sunni fighters in 2003 when we approched Bagdhad. They were bullet proof from the side. They also made excellent car bombs. The Sunnis would throw every explosivive they could find in the back and used it to ram and get through US checkpoints. A formidable suicde weapon
|
Hadn't heard that about the dump trucks, I know when I was in Somalia the bad guys would pull that same kind of crap. They'd mount a 50 cal in the back of their pick ups or what ever conveyance with what ever kind of weapon with what ever kind of makeshift armour. We called them Mad Max vehicles.
But the point is there, that a group of bad guys that isn't a traditional fighting unit used a make shift vehicle for their means. The Joes, on the otherhand, are part of a standing army and would have equipment that is intended for military use or civilian use adapted for the military. The only way I could see the Joes using a pit mine dump truck is if they comendeared it as their only means of getting a job done, similar to the end of the movie Navy SEALs. The jacked some dude's Mecedes as means to escape. |
what we need
Very true. You were in somalia? My best friend was with the 511th Mp company as part of the 10th Mountain division. Thank you for your service. It must have been hard with all the technicals and everyone carrying a gun. You have my respect. Nice Avatar

There's the AT-RT from Star Wars that sortof fits the bill. Seems undergunned/underarmored, but it could be modded. A Vulcan cannon would be a perfect replacement. I'm not a big Star Wars expanded universe buff, but the AT-PT is getting closer. My biggest complaint about Cobra is their lack of a real helicopter! Since the earliest comics and throughout the cartoons, they've had a type of Huey/cargo chopper. Seems like Chap Mei or someone made one, and some have customized them, but I can't find a pict of one anywhere. So they need a chopper. And a battle tank. |
On a second thought, GI Joe and Cobra need furniture, computers and that kind of stuff. Weapons too but those are supply by Marauder's.
|
Quote:
Carlos is right about the furniture, but i remember always seeing Joe accessory packs on clearance when Hasbro had them, so i'm guessing we'll never see those again. remember those damned accessory packs with a blue televiper pack and brown scanner...fools! anyway, if Hasbro did make furniture, it would probably be flourescent. |
Quote:
I agree, we need the AC 130. |
A Joe submarine with vehicle landing capabilities.
A modern self propelled Joe artillery piece with a rotating turret that can target and fire on the move. Both Cobra and Joe need a transport aircraft for airborne ops and air deployed vehicles. |
I had a thought today that Hasbro could come out with a figure that is a remote vehicle expert and include a Battlefield rover, U.A.V. and etc... accessories
|
Quote:
I actually really, really like that idea. I'd love to see an alpha class predator drone, that comes with a figure, and a computer console. Or a standard packaged figure with a more mobile console and one of the bomb-defusing robots in use today. |
I work at Ft. Bragg Army Base and out of all things mention, this is what G.I. Joe / all modern millitary action figures need is the M1078 LMTV!!! These things are everywhere on and off post. How come no toys!?!
http://www.primeportal.net/m1078.htm |
I.m.o.!
I repeat that what G.I.JOE toy line really needs is an air big transport like the AC-130. I know that a 1/18 AC-130'd be huge, immense. So Hasbro'd produce a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey that is smaller then an AC-130, but modern and cool enough for our tastes.
I'd like to see an airplane with seats for 12/14 Joes into it. And, please, stop with strange futuristic airplanes like we saw in "Rise of Cobra"!!! |
|
Eh!
Quote:
This "C-130" has been highly customized!!! No way I can do this...sigh! :( |
This airplane is...
