Potential Army Builders?
With PoC figures hitting it big, I was wanting the opinions of our community on potential army builders in the line. I'm really wanting to start building the AWE striker drivers. They make for a sweet Black Ops team.
What do you guys think? |
I think the actualy troop builders of the AVs and Shock Troopers are great for troop building, they both have a high level of awesomeness to them. The Jungle Vipers are cool, but I couldn't see have legions of them like you would AVs, Shock Troopers, Blue Shirts, Crimson Guard or regular Vipers. I picked up a couple of AVs for Frank and have had a chance to mess around with them, but I'd rather not invest in a whole bunch of those guys to build what I feel is a propper sized squad or platoon. Same with the Shock Troopers. I may get one or two just coz he's a cool figure, but that's about it.
As far as that AWE driver (Firefox? Desert Fox?) He is awesome and would make for a fine set of troop builders. I wanted to get another AWE for my collection but passed on this latest incarnation due to the odd colour choices, but once I really started to look at the driver, I shelled out the $$$ for it. Those ugly colours can be taken care of with a rattle can. Clutch from the PoC VAMP is another that can make for a good troop builder. He's got on a sort of jump suit, with 25th Beach Head's vest and a knife and holster on each thigh. Beach Head with a bit of modding and Dusty are also great potential for troop building. |
I don't see much of a point in troop building the Joes. Each one has his own character and it works for the team. I do add my own characters but prefere to just troop build the Vipers, (AV, JV, CG, etc.) I did want to get the GI Joe troop builder TRU exclusive, but they were still unique individuals.
|
I understand what you mean Pinpoint. I try to keep my joes all exclusive and have full character bios but this Night Fox figure makes for a perfect Spec Ops soldier.
|
I would have to say the AV is my favor army builder so far. I havent seen the shocktroopers yet, and other than that ive been trying to build PoC Firefly... he makes a great "Shocktrooper" in my own joeverse.

This could be expensive, but cool!!! Quote:
The Joes need wingmen also. Like Mike The Situation said "somebody has to catch that grenade" |

Ahah! Oh Yea! |
I was checking out eBay to see if some of those Chinese sellers might have Night Fox going solo or in groups of five like they've done with some other drivers, with no luck though. In fact the only two Night Fox only auctions I found were selling him for more expensive than the AWE can be found at retail or on HTS.

You know I find that rather strange. Some of those ebay sellers had RoC and 25th/ME lots galore!!! I wonder why no PoC? AV the Night Fox is the same figure as the RoC Desert Ambush Duke. It just has a different head and webgear which doesnt really fit the torso well. You could easy round up those Dukes, swap some heads and gear. Might be more cost effective. |

true, thing is finding these guys |
Hasbro toycompany has Duke Ambush still. I find one here and there at Marshall and kmart.
POC has what I think isn't really a true troop build capability because there is alot of individuality. What I found is that they are good for small teams. Jungle Duke: With some arm and head swaps can make a good 5 to 10 man team like did with The Bushmen. Beach head: A small commando unit like I did with the Rhino. Change mask colors Dusty: small 4 to 6 man team switching heads or 2 man sniper scouts. Even though there are two heads, a large team would look funny. Shock Troopers. I think can be endless. I think a great compliment to the ROC H2 with the running boards on each side, 4 guys hanging off ready to attack. Alley Vipers: same thing |
Im building the firefly and beachheads, so I can make my versions of Alley Vipers and Tiger Force guys. The big problem is finding one of each at the same time.
|
OK, let's define troop builing in this case. I've got 40 Viper Pit Vipers, 11 Eels, 8 tele-vipers, 25 Night Watch Troops, etc. These guys are all nameless Cobras who make up the bulk of their military. This is troop building in the traditional sense.
Is it possible to "Troop Build" the Joes? Sure, you could buy the Green Shirts or Pit Commandos and have a bunch of nameless Joes as cannon fodder (the Joe equivelant to Star Trek red shirts I guess). Lt. Pinpoint said "I don't see much of a point in troop building the Joes. Each one has his own character and it works for the team...." Good point, the Joes are their own characters and one could argue sofar as to say you loose the cool uniformity in a formation that you see with Cobra troops (which, BTW, looks freakin' awesome when you get a bunch of similar figures lined up) because the Joes all have their own look as well. What if you looked at troop building the Joes this way: I break my Joes down by their service or what their speciality is. I've got my Marines made up of Gung Ho, Leatherneck and the other Joe Marines as well as a few customs. I've got SEALs with Torpedo, Wet Suit and other Joe SEALs, same with Army SpecOps, Pilots, Search and Rescue (like Air force PJs), machine gunners with R&R, Roadblock, and a couble others, and so on. So while they are not troop builders in the same respect that Cobra Vipers and Blue Shirts are, they are still troop builders in that you are grouping them together becuase they have similar roles for the team. Vipers and Blue Shirts are Cobra's trigger pulling bullet spounges Grunt, Footloose, and others are Joe's Infantry Televipers and Techno-Vipers are Cobra's Comm/Tech guys Breaker, Dial Tone, Mainframe etc are Joe's Comm/Tech guys |
I'm with Otto. I really don't troop build the Joes either. I don't use green shirts as they were only a cartoon option not used in the comics. So Cobra's are the only thing that get really troop built in my verse. Though I did get two of the Pit Commando's cause of the gear.
|
In my verse the joes are made up of their own personalities, their a advanced Military team. In my mind I am considering troopbuilding the ambush figures and Night Fox as not joes, but Special Forces Operatives who can be assigned on a Operation as back up for the joes.
|
I troop built the RoC Pit Commando since they work well for GI Joe MPs or some sort of security team. Other then that, my joes dont get army built, only cobras.
|
I plan on troop building the PoC wave 3 Duke. Im going to paint his armor all black, and of course do headswaps. Since there are so many Dukes already, I'm going to use this one as my "Greenshirt."

Lol. This is the same thing I plan on doing except im going to paint only the hair different and eyes colors. |
Quote:
Only reason I want that Duke is for a better custom of Alan "Dutch" Schaefer from Predator. |
Quote:
But he looks nothing like Dutch!?! Its a puny figure! |
Quote:
The head sculpt resembles Arnie |
Quote:
I have to agree that he looks NOTHING like Dutch from Predator. head sculpt included. |

That's the magic of customization! I think with some paint mods that face could possibly resemble him. |
