Idea for the How To Section

Hey,
I just saw that some members commented on a *new guys* question from like.. 2 years ago (2009) the thread had been revived. Anyways I got thinking. Can we have stickies in the how to section that are seperate from the main board?

Assuming we can, maybe we should have 4 or 5 stickies that are scenery based. Because the threadstarters question from 2009 was how he intended to start building a Lab?

We seem to have alot of great material, articles and tools here at Joe Dios, but theres very little in the way of organization with the how-to?

How-to
*Arctic
*Desert
*Jungle/Woodland
*Urban
*Space/Cosmic

If we had how-to's stickied like that we could collaborate all that we know about each topic in each sticky? Maybe have a mod or admin do the 1st post in each thread, they can go back and edit urls/links in. It could be like an index for newbies and veterans to return to.

What do you guys think?

That would be a very good idea. I'm for it.

I'd love to see more significant threads!
Maybe something dedicated totechnical stuff also? As in lighting and camera tips?

Urban Saboteur 04-08-2011 08:08 AM

Email.

Ok,
I've emailed Hammerfel about this idea. Obviously the best thing now is for him to check up on this in his own time, i'll also throw in some contributions and efforts if it gets the go-ahead. I dont currently have the permissions to change stuff to stickies but i'm sure there are one or two mods/admins that can do it. :)

I think it be really helpful for us to have the how-to sections more organised and we could have 4 or 5 for scenery and like Agent Viper mentioned, we could have one for camera and technical help/assistance.

I'd imagine Hammerfel is a little bit tied up with work and stuff, so lets be patient and wait for him to get round to it. :)

In friendship
Rich

Rich, send me a PM on here or on Facebook and I'll help you out anyway I can!

Urban Saboteur 04-08-2011 04:17 PM

Pm

Ok cool.
If you can get on FB chat? :)

Urban Saboteur 04-08-2011 07:49 PM

It begins!

Ok,
I've got the threads up, i've already begun putting in some articles into each of the categories :) if you think of anything at all for any of the categories post up in the thread and i'll credit you, if you find an article on a toyblog with a good how-to post it and i'll make sure its in the index for that category!

I'm hoping of course that when the time comes and you wanna set build or do a scene, you can pick whichever scene your doing, go to the how-to and find a tutorial alphabetically on what your looking for. :)

I've only been through 3 pages of the how-to but already we've got some fantastic things already. I'm hoping to sift back through it all and have it Indexed so keep checking back, if you feel i've missed anything please give it a mention.

Rich

Stickied! Good work!

Urban Saboteur 04-09-2011 01:24 AM

Thanks!

Thank you! :D

Like I mentioned above, I'm not actually finished yet. I have been reading through the various numbers of posts on how-to's on stuff, copy and pasting the other members profiles who have submitted the work (I want to give the contributors full credit) but just make sure everything is Indexed in the right place for ease of use for the community and its members.

I also plan on doing some how-to's as well myself at some point. So i'll be a contributing member as well.

Ok. Guys.. You can all help. I'm putting a request out, to everyone in this community. if you've done or are planning to do a How-To on anything that can be used in the Index, be it scenery or photography or have tips on photography and lighting or shutter speeds and ISO setting related PM me or post up here and i'll get to it. Every little bit helps, remember when you first started in the hobby?? Well now is a great time to encourage any potential lurkers or newbies and inspire them!

Get involved in this! :D Seriously, it can be a good thing for everyone, we'll not only have the best GIJOE picture taking site on the web but we'll also be the best source for diorama and scenery help as well!

Thank you to everyone so far that has helped with How-To's as you can see from the contributions i've always included your profile link so you can be contacted if anyone needs to discuss particulars on how you did this or how you did that.

The Great thing here is that those making and doing How-To's will have it appear in the Main index, which means it will not be lost in the volumes of 2page posts discussing the same thing. If we get to the stage where we have too many contributions we can file them under Seperate categories within that theme and I'll space them out nicely so it's not too confusing :)

If you have any suggestions or questions or want to get involved and aren't sure then send me a PM.

Rich
