I use 1/4 inch high, and 3/4 inch wife. There are a variety of lengths for bricks in the real world so you could use 1/2 inch wide and 1 inch wide for variety. You will notice when looking at mine that I use mostly 1/4x3/4 and 1/4x1/2

They are a little bigger than reality but look good at that size IMO.
