That is a direct translation of JFK's speech in Berlin! He said "Ich bin ein Berliner." He was trying to identify with the crowd in the speech. Unfortuantely, using American English Noun/verb use it made sense to Americans, but not to Germans. Berliners were the jelly filled pastry treats, and he said he was one. In retrospect, he should have said that today he was from Berlin. "Ich bin von Berlin."
