Star Wars Cantina
Not GI Joe I know, but I thought I'd show. I had recently acquired a vintage Greedo figure, and wanted to make a small diorama for him to display in, and to take photos in.
Finished result.
How-to is below.
Greedo shot first by Deimos-remus, on Flickr
First thing I did was make the room box, which was about 4.25" tall, 8" wide and about 5" deep. A good thing for sets like these is to really experiment with texture. I decided to dab some spackling paste onto the walls of the box, using a foam brush to pick and lift textures. I then painted it a base coat of a peanut-butter color, then dry-brushed some lighter colors, oranges and very light turqouises for variation. The floor texture was a printed out photo, using a texture from cgtextures.com. Wish I could've used real tile, but just wanted to build it using materials I already had.
The Table was made using a spraypaint can lid, with slats of foamcore hot-glues to the sides. Then painted.
The chairs were made with two slats of wood, with the same technique applied to the walls on the sides of them. And some rubber scraps I had lying around for the cushions.
And the Light fixture is just a hole cut out of the back, with a Razor cover glued on top. This way I can pick what color light can show through instead of wiring something into there.

Great work. Thanks for sharing. I especially like the razor for the light fitting.

Nathan and Scarrviper, wow. Extraordinary work. Those sets are so complete, and have such character ... I am really impressed. I want to do stuff like that
