I've been customizing both figures and vehicles for many years, and I only ever use Humbrol or Revell enamel paints, or sometimes for large vehicles I'll use automotive matt black or grey spray paint. Enamels are much tougher than acrylics once dry, although the mineral turpentine clean up is a pain. The current Revell "semi-matt" range dries to a finish virtually identical to the factory paint used on Joes. The few times I have tried acrylics I have always found chipping to be a problem. Some of my customs are more than twenty years old, and the enamel paint still looks as good today as when it was first applied.

Outrider,I know where to get Humbrol paint, but do you know what name the Revell paint is marketed under in the US? I know Squadron Mail Order does not carry Revell.

Thanks!

In the past, I used enamel (humbrol and testors), but when I changed country... I forgot to bring my paints, (I will in my next trip)... but meanwhile... I had to buy new ones... and did a little bit of research... and found out that acrylic paints are more recommended for figures... so I went and bought Citadel acrylic paints (Games Workshop), which I plan to use in figures and details on vehicles. For vehicles I'm using spray enamel paints.

Now the question: If I use opaque varnish over an acrylic painted figure, will the resistance be similar to having used enamel??

I customize all the the time. I use apple barrel acrylics, but I never paint arms due to chipping. I have used citadel paint before and they work as well.

Cap, I'm sorry, but I wouldn't have a clue. I always believed Revell was a US company, so I thought their paint would be available there. Usually it's the other way around, with stuff being available in the US but not here!
