The Comic Box #30!!!
Welcome to The Comic Box. This is a discussion thread for the GI Joe comics. We start at Marvel’s #1 and move thru the series every Wednesday. It’s a chance to give your thoughts, opinions and remarks about the comic in question.
#30. Darkness
~Short Summary~
The Dreadnoks trash an air base, Billy is caught nosing through Cobra files by the Baroness and Major Bludd, who plan to use him to assassinate Cobra Commander.
~Notes of Interest~
Really get to see Zartan and the Dreadnoks in action for the first time. Cobra is sure that Joe headquarters is at McGuire Field, and plan an attack. The vengeful boy Billy teams up with the traitorous Baroness and Major Bludd. Crimson Guardsman "Smith" goes to work.

The Billy storyline was heading along nicely back in these issues, but it seemed to end up wandering aimlessly later on. And poor old Major Bludd went from being a fairly important character (deservedly), like in this issue , to virtually being ignored in the second half of the Marvel run. Maybe Larry Hama lost interest due to all the strange characters Hasbro forced upon him.

Cool cover and good story-I hated seeing those beautiful Skystrikers being cut-up by the Dreadnoks! Believe me-If I were a Joe Pilot-I'd shoot the Dreadnoks on sight!

The appeal of the Dreadnoks, GI JOE ARAH's first subteam...they destroy things for fun. Every kid's dream...well, not every kid's...but...
Doesn't C.C. lead the airfield attack himself and get his butt handed to him? What did he expect, he had such pathetically small force that if the airbase had been JOE HQ, they really would've owned Cobra Commander. Even cartoon C.C. would've had a force at least 6 times that size.

this was not only a great comic to read, but it was a big part of the history of the joe world. alone with the issue of the death of flagg and quin, this was an issue no one should have missed. add the fact that it had a lot of the dreadnoks running around and you had to love it. a fice star issue.
