resolute destro's voice
there are those who always wanted destro to sound irish, well you got your wish with resolute. destro sounds just like connery. now im wondering, are you happy with this? because i think it sucked@$$ big time. it was the weakest point of all, even more so then killing bludd and storm shadow. he doesnt sound like someone i would be afraid of, instead he sounds like someone i would walk up and smack. just wondering what are your thoughts on this, do you like it or hate it?
also, its clear that they read my dio and got the duke, scarlett and snake eyes thing from me, can i sue, lol.

Destro and Connery are Scottish. You're right though, it sounded like the the actor was doing an impersonation of Connery. But being a fan I liked it.
Killing Bludd was brilliant. They had to kill characters that mattered. Kill a hundred Cobra Troopers or a thousand BATs and nobody would care. Fans have wanted deaths for a long time, if they killed Icecream Soldier or Crystal Ball it would have just been weak. Not knowing who would live or die made the battles intense and made the series more interesting as a whole.
I wouldn't count Storm Shadow out yet...

I always picture Destro as having a very Connery-esque voice, so I approved.
The original toon Destro also seemed to attempt a Connery imitation... it just wasn't a particularly good one.

I always felt his voice in the old sunbow cartoon was a variation of connery anyway, so it worked for me. He should have said "I'm Sean Figgin' Conery!"
Bludd being killed didn't work for me however. Just made no sence. Death for Death's sake never does.

Some fans, please. And they're the minority, judging by how riled up the fandom got when Devil's Due went on their killing spree a while back. Most of us feel that these characters should be preserved for the future, rather than killed off to demonstrate how "mature" and "adult" the story is. Blowing up Moscow got the point across just fine without resorting to the unnecessary deaths of Bazooka, Major Bludd, etc.

Which has always been Warren Ellis's M.O. (Ellis is a comic book writer who wrote Resolute, by the way). Back in around 1992 or '93, he took over writing Doom 2099 for Marvel Comics and killed off the entire supporting cast in his first issue! Killing characters off for no reason other than shock value is what he does, and for some reason people seem to think it's ingenious and clever, rather than the work of a hack who can't think of anything better to do with the characters.
Sorry if I sound snarky, but I just don't like Warren Ellis and I don't like needless, shocking, "THIS IS NOT YOUR FATHER'S G.I. JOE"-style deaths. I'm not trying to start a fight, just presenting my opinion.
(And that said, for the most part, I actually enjoyed Resolute. I skipped the webisodes and watched the whole thing on Cartoon Network instead. When I have more time later, I'll give my thoughts in the Resolute thread.)

I have to agree with Self-Modifier.
Larry Hama's GIJoe comics were always mature but up until the Trucial Abysmia story, very few Joes had died, and those that did were generally created for story purposes (Mangler immediately comes to mind).
I guess what I wanted was a Cobra with a purpose, GIJoes being soldiers doing an impossible job, sometimes taking heavy damage for very small victories, getting screwed over by politics, etc. The stuff that made the Hama run so fun.
Instead it's Old GIJoe Cartoon + Death.

I Liked the Destro voice. Better than the cheap "JAmes Earl Jones" impersonation of the 80's toons. Cobra Commander is a DEFINITE improvement! He's dowright Evil!!

like jay and modifier said, he killed bludd, bazooka and stormy off just to get shock value. what made it worse is that he openly admitted that he neither knew anything about gi joe, or cared. it was a job to him, and he doesnt care if the story continues and now we have no cobra higher ups to use. why not kill off scrap iron, someone who is very well known, but wold not be as missed as bludd or storm shadow. and why not kill off someone like heavy duty or muskrat instead of bazooka who was a key player in the old cartoons. if he wanted shock value, he should have killed off snake eyes. but i dont think hasbro would let him do that, so he had t go the way of my dios and let him lose scarlett to duke, the main thing i approved of. i still say destro sounds wimpy now, someone that big needed a deep voice, he more of a mike tyson now who everyone makes fun of.
