joe cartoons
i recently got myself the rest of the second season G.I. Joe and operation dragonfire. DIC really didnt do as bad a job as we all say they did, well at least not in art, the art may even be better. the story was what sucked. a cool thing i found out watching the last of season 2 was that this was where the coil was actually founded. cobra commander founded them in order to overthrow serpentor.
the reason i started this thread however, was to ask your opinions on hopefully a new era of joe cartoons. sigma 6 is gone, good or bad. since their going to continue the figures, at least until 08 as far as i know, what are your opinions about anew G.I. Joe cartoon. i really dont see it, but im hopeing if only to help the sales they give it a lot of thought. id love to see some old like story lines with a very adverse line of characters, nothing as lame as sigma 6. i want old joe style where you can have a different joe character every week or so and not have to go over the same 8 or 10 joes, maybe with some cool new animation.

If they could good good animators to consult with Hama-style stories, that would be cool. I'm not sure how the market is. Would regular TV carry it, or would it be limited to DVD sales only. Marketing is king, but that could be a double-edged sword if the cartoons are TOO overtly designed only to sell toys, and only telling a story by accident.
It really needs to be the other way around. A well crafted story, that HAPPENS to sell some related merchandise. (a la star wars...)
Time will tell! Good idea for a thread. I'm interested in the thoughts of others!

I wouldn't mind direct-to-DVD Joe cartoons..........I really enjoyed Valor vs. Venom....
Marvel's Ultimate Avengers DVD's would be a good example of what could be done.....PG-PG-13 stories.............decent animation................I think it would work.....

I rank it this way:
Sunbow (excellent voice acting, animation, characterization, and story direction)
Sigma 6 (serviceable in some aspects, but silly anime cliches always brought it down, voice acting was inconsistent at best, horrible at its worst)
DIC (Do it cheap. Bad voice acting, bad animation, nonexistent characterization, boring stories)
Frankly, I think the DIC Joe cartoon is horrible. I saw some of the clips on you tube recently. It rubs me the wrong way, seeing it for the first time in along time.

It'd be nice if Sony could rerelease the Sunbow series on DVD for the 25th anniversary -- actually put the WHOLE series out -- since the new figures are pretty much from the show's era, with the most popular characters in the show's style. I think it makes sense in a whole tie-in, cross-promotional marketing way.
I kinda enjoyed the CGI movies, too, but I think some traditional-style animations like the Marvel ones (not all stylised like The Batman, or anime) aimed at a slightly older audience would be great.
