Default At least I gave them a chance...

So the new 25th anniversary stuff is out. Most people would know I have not been optimistic about them since the first pictures appeared on the net some months back. But to be totally fair, I bought some figures so I could make an informed judgement with them "in hand". The verdict? I'm afraid my fears have been confirmed. The new stuff does have some good points; the sculpting is great, the accessories are awesome, and I love the proper holsters molded onto to some figures.
However, the positives are outweighted by the negatives. Most obviously, the new scale makes them hard to integrate with any "old" Joe figures and vehicles (try and sit one in the Vamp!). I can accept taller versions of Roadblock and Gung Ho, after all they are supposed to be big guys. But a Scarlett that's taller than virtually any "old" Joe just doesn't work for me. Secondly, the new articulation is a mixed bag. Some of the new points are cool, but others don't move as far or as well as the regular Joes. The chest just doesn't look right on some figures, and the heads all look strange when viewed from side on. Another concern is how "delicate" the new figures feel. I was hesitant even when removing them from the packaging, as they felt like they were about to break at any second.
So overall, I have to say I'm disappointed with the new stuff. As a result I most likely won't buy any more, unless Hasbro make some improvements (and knowing Hasbro, that's unlikely).
I know alot of you folks are really impressed with the 25th figures, and I'm happy for you , I truly am, but I'm not going to spend money on lesser versions of characters I already have so many versions of.

Like I said before, Outrider-- Giving them a chance is all anyone can ask of you! I'm sorry you didn't like them, and in all honesty, I do agree with some of your points-- Mainly the delicacy issue. But my own personal opinion is that the good outweighs the bad. To each their own, I suppose.

By the way, which ones did you get?

I bought the two boxed sets. Having had a further look at them, I have found that the quality varies widely. The Snake Eyes is a pretty good figure (might even post a shot of him), whereas the Baroness is almost comical. She looks like a bandy legged anorexic stick figure.

Since we stated early on other post, shipping outside USA is very expensive. Being so I'm planning to buy just a Destro and a Snake Eyes v1 (and if someone is planning to buy more than one pack and sell them away, here is your guy).
Like you Craig, I'm not sure if I'll go having more of them. Looks like I'll spend money on old stuff. I hope the old stuff get cheaper on prizes since the new can get collectors attention .

Rather than start a new thread.

I'm on the fence. I got Cobra Officer yesterday, and he's initially cool,... then the flaws shine through. Can't really sit down. Elbows don't even bend inward as much as vintage ARAH. One arm longer than the other . And yes, they are tall. You can get away with one tall guy hanging around, but the more that come around, the stranger it looks.

I don't even understand the knee joint since the hip joint is restricted.

They reinvented the wheel, but it doesn't roll very well.

It's frustrating because the elements are there for it to be good. The packaging, extra articulation, vintage outfits. If it were totally bad, I could just ignore it like I did the 2.5" junk.

Of course, someone already said elsewhere, they may redo some of these early release if sales of the line are strong. The same "support the line" jargon from 1997 (horrible quality figures) and 2003 (t-crotch $@%@%) ...how about getting things right from the get-go? Stop dividing fandom and maybe you'll get better sales.

Lava Boss, you have summed it all up perfectly. The good points are outweighed by the bad. I have a feeling that once collectors see the quality and design problems, and word gets around, that sales will drop. Hasbro will then have every excuse to drop the GI Joe line, which is not good for any of us.

Well, so far I have picked up the officer, flint, snake eyes(black wolf),hooded CC and the cobra set. I plan on getting the joe set soon. At first I was very skeptical of these figures. I am an old sculpt collector and I never was too keen on the new sculpt stuff from the last few years. These figures do have big flaws such as daiper crotches, useless hands, bowleggedness. and bad elbows. They also have good points such as perfect accesories and good sculpts. Some of the problems are fixable, some are not. Slowly I am warming up to these. So far I think Destro is the best of them all. I have fixed some of my figures and have made improvements. I plan to put up pics eventually.

That been said, these figures are cool, but will never replace the classic sculpts.
